I think like that a lot — but mostly when I have the luxury to do so. I started teaching at a public university to stay engaged in the real struggles of real people. I understand what you mean about focusing on the positive, and creating that reality. But I’m also feeling the need to create political structures that can both activate and effectuate the positive change. And sometimes that involves engaging with the people who hold these outlooks — and interrogating whether we have some small trace of this mentality, ourselves.
Interestingly, I wrote the above piece less as an attack on a bunch of confused rich guys than as a way of exploring the impulse to escape.
