Programming the World
A webinar with me and Matt Klein about Program or Be Programmed, Fifteen Years Later
I just recorded a special edition of the Team Human podcast, in celebration of the 15th Anniversary Edition of my book Program or Be Programmed, which came out from OR/Books last week with a new chapter about AI (of course), a new foreword, and an additional section called Programming the World, where I’m sharing a new “theory of change” based less on influencing people or their behavior than changing the landscape in which we interact — with the hope of engendering more social, compassionate and less automated society.
“If you’re living in a world with a multi-billion dollar technology industry spending all of its resources to decalibrate you and put in a state of panic, you can either withdraw completely, or learn how to metabolize the assault. And that requires some critical thinking. In order to function autonomously in a digital society, you’re going to have to grow up.”
What you’re about to hear is a webinar discussion with me about the book, but also about navigating the increasingly strange environment in which we live, facilitated by the brilliant digital anthropologist, cultural theorist, and head of global foresight at Reddit, Matt Klein. You can find out more about him at KleinKleinKlien.com -
You can find out more about Program or Be Programmed — or even get yourself a copy of this accessible little book — at ORBooks.com or check the link our show notes.
So here’s our conversation recorded live with a hundred or so online participants, on October 4, 2024. I think it’s a special one.
Oh — you can get the new book, Program or Be Programmed: Eleven Commands for the AI Future, right here.
